We had the best experience at this restaurant. Our day had not been the best. Being from Texas I have a "slight" accent when I speak....let's just say some of those people from New York didn't appreciate it and made fun of it. So when we walked into TooJay's we must have looked like we lost our last friend. The wait staff immediately asked if everything was okay. We chuckled and said the guys working at the recreation center let us know very quickly we would not fit in at The Villages. Immediately they apologized (for the other jerks) and then went out of their way to win us over....and boy did they! We loved the pastrami sandwiches, the French onion soup, and the fresh fruit, BUT they paled in comparison to the Banana Dream Cake. Do Not miss it. Oh, and tell the cute red headed waitress (Marion) that we think she rocks! One last thing - to the two Brooklyn Jerks - just because I speak slowly does not mean I think slowly!!! I got a reply back on this review from someone from NY. I tried to reply directly to him, but I couldn't get it to go to him. Sorry sir, I love NY. One of my favorite places, and the people are wonderful. The two gentlemen who worked at the Rec. Center identified themselves as being from NY. You stated that there is no one from NY that works at The Villages Rec. Center. I do not have your inside information on this. They said they were from Brooklyn, and I was just reiterating what they said.

Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in The Villages. Service is excellent and usually fast. The servers are pleasant and efficient. I love the Chargrilled 1/2 pound chopped steak. The pastrami is definitely NY style and delicious.

I love our Toojays in Lake Sumter Landing, so I'll share a secret with you. When you are having breakfast, they will substitute a delicious potato pancake for the usual potatoes they serve at breakfast. Delicious!

Not sure what to obsession with this place is. Food is too bland for me. But, they do use high quality ingredients. The place can get busy especially around holiday time. Nice vegetarian options.Desserts are good.

Having gotten up at 4:30am to catch a 7am flight down to Orlando, I wasn't really in the mood for breakfast while we were waiting for our flight. I don't know what it is, but I can party until 5am without a problem, but tell me to get up before the crack of noon, and my brain is just completely nonfunctional. So, by the time we arrived at The Villages, where my parents-in-law have their retirement home, I was famished. They know me so well, they know that I'm all stomach, all the time, so we hopped into the golf carts (the entire community travels by golf carts - it's hilarious) and headed into the Sumpter Landing Town Square for a bite to eat at TooJay's. At first glance at the glass counters that line the entrance way, I felt my blood sugar levels soar, as I was greeted by rows upon rows of rugulah, cookies, danishes, muffins, and cakes that were as tall as they were wide. Even though I don't have a sweet-tooth, I knew that I wasn't leaving TooJay's without a bite of one of those delicious concoctions! For my meal, I ordered the Mandarin Chicken Salad, which was my own fault, as who goes to a deli in Florida to order mandarin anything?! The chicken that was on the salad was actually a dill chicken salad, and while delicious by itself, it was at odds with the slices of canned mandarin oranges, grapes and almond slices. The orange dressing that came with the salad was overly sweet to a point where I felt that I may have been mistakenly served an orange glaze that was meant for dessert then my salad. However, both my husband's and my father-in-law's sandwiches looked marvelous (they loved it), and the side of onion rings we ordered were hot, crunchy and quite good with the remoulade sauce. As we were ready to leave, my father-in-law orders two slices of the chocolate cake with a cheesecake layer to go, but as it was hot out, and we were planning on doing some shopping, they kindly offered to keep it in their cooler for us to pick up once we were done. However, a rainstorm came up on us, and we left the Town Square, forgetting about our cakes until later, when my mother-in-law and I went back to get them (along with a continuation of our shopping trip). While standing at the counter, picking up the cakes, the rugalah called to me. There were 6 or 7 different varieties, and seeing the lustful way my mother-in-law was eyeing the case, I ordered a half pound of mixed rugalah (yes, I'm completely blaming her), which were flavorful, moist and oh-so-good! A great snack and just what we needed to round out our shopping trip! Sunday morning, my husband and I decides to be nice and to pick up breakfast so that his parents could luxuriate in the glory of a Sunday-morning sleep-in. We ordered the Western omelet, the Spanish omelet, and the feta with spinach omelet, with potatoes, challah bread, and an extra side of corned beef hash - all to go. Delicious! While I would have preferred the potatoes to be cut a little smaller, as to soak up more flavor from the skillet, it was well seasoned and quite tasty. The omelets were packed with fresh ingredients and although we had to drive 20 minutes in the little golf carts (which couldn't go faster 25 mph), the eggs were still tender and not a bit rubbery. All three times that we've been in there, the staff has been enormously attentive, funny and prompt. Our waiter from lunch was extremely charming and had just the right touch of humor that made my in-laws regulars. Both times that we ordered from the counter, the ladies that assisted us were kind and made some great recommendations. I can definitely see why TooJay's in The Villages is such a popular dining spot with such great service! Definitely worth a visit, if you're looking for something simple, yet decent to eat. P.S. My sister-in-law always insists that TooJay's is an "authentic NYC deli". I never have the heart to say to her "oh honey, no...it isn't". Because it really isn't, and if you're coming here in hopes of getting a "NYC Deli" experience or even NYC Deli food (and before anyone tries to call me out on this, my BFF lives in NYC and I visit her about once a month. I've been to Katz, Carnegie, Puccios, Best Kosher, etc...so I *know* NYC delis), you're going to be very disappointed. Howeve it's still great, just don't expect a real NYC deli.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Line was up to the 10 minute wait mark and so we waited the ten minutes and were seated. Wife had the salad with shrimp and I had the Toojay salad. Both salads were good and so large that we took leftovers and ate them for lunch the next day on our way back to Georgia. Service staff was quick and pleasant.

The best sandwich place in the The Villages! Fresh bread is made coupled with non processed meats. I ordered the Triple J sandwich consisting of corned beef, roast beef, turkey and Swiss rolled with coleslaw and Russian dressing. The best sandwich I have ever had! I would highly recommend TooJay's for sandwiches. However, I was quite disappointed when I visited the deli for breakfast. Their breakfast selections and service is second rate. So, do take-out sandwiches and try what could be heaven in your mouth!

Today's lunch at Toojay's was poor. Usually the food and service are great. I am a "regular" diner there and have had just about everything on the menu. Occasionally you can expect a bad day. Today was just a bad day. My Potato Pancakes were horrible. They tasted as if they were made from left over hash browns from breakfast. They were terribly overcooked. I rarely complain as I am not one who wants a free meal. As a chef I know how these pancakes should be made. It would be wrong for me to try to teach their chef how it's done. Our waitress was doing her best to keep up with the large crowds coming in from a rainstorm to have lunch. Again, some days are like this. Here is my point, it is unfair to judge a restaurant on just one visit. Everyone has a bad day and we need to be more forgiving in our reviews. Sometimes just a short conversation with the manager, after you have paid for your meal, is all that is needed. ChefLars rated 4 star, $$$.

Pretty good all day. Inexpensive gives the feeling of a Northeast diner. Service not too bad and food is generally good - not great - just plain good. Nothing to rave about but you are rarely disappointed as long as you are not looking for fine dining!

We have been going to TooJay's for years. You can always rely on them to provide good food at a reasonable price. Our kids absolutely love the black and white icing cookies from the deli. The best part if TooJays offers those high sugar treats in miniature form so I am not forced into purchasing pizza sized cookies for already hyper children. The mini back and white icing cookies are ideal, the food is good, and the price is right.

Went there on Tuesday for lunch. Terrible service. My Roasted Veggie wrap had mushrooms only on one side and peppers on the other, had no cheese, and was rolled like an egg roll. It was only an inch wider. My coffee cup remained empty from the moment our waitress brought the food until I stopped another waiter to ask for more. Our waitress brought the check but didn't have the respect to bring it back to our table for signature. A manger did. I have eaten a several Toojay's before and will not be going back to this one. Go to the Spanish Village one instead.

Wow! I love TooJays!! We were visiting the Villages. We had lunch and it was so good, we went back another day. I had the Vegetarian Reuban (both times) and it was devine. Also the creamed spinich was excellent. How do they make creamed spinich taste so good? It's very busy for lunch, but worth the wait. OR, you could go at around 3pm. There was no wait.

Food is always fresh and delicious. On this visit I had the French onion soup and the hot corned beef sandwich. The soup was very good. The cheese was perfectly melted over the top. The sandwich was piled high and the bread was very fresh. Excellent dining experience. Highly recommended. Great value too

One word: fabulous. We experienced good service, nice decor, a quiet atmosphere, comfortable seating and, best of all, great food prepared from fresh ingredients. The menu is extensive, catering to a variety of tastes. A fine value for the money. It's easy to see why this place enjoys a steady popularity. If only it was located near my home I could stop cooking entirely and just eat here three times a day. Or, I should say, twice, since the portions are such that few people could handle three full TooJay's meals in a row! Even so, I would still WANT to eat here three times a day! :-D

I was really disappointed by TooJays. Its probably my own fault for ordering a Chinese Chicken Salad in a deli. I found the tropical dressing and slimy chicken so disgusting that I failed my duties as a member of the Clean Plate Club.

Had a long wait due to the snowbirds being in town, but it was worth it. I had the Ultimate Omelet and was very please. Attentive waitstaff and perfectly cooked food. What more can you ask for? The location was clean and well maintained. There is an obvious attention to the details of being what it takes to be a good deli. I watched the other tables and was amazed at the portions; many folks were leaving with enough for another meal tucked into their take home boxes. The wait was the only thing tyhat kept them from getting a 5 star review. They need to invest in a beeper system and some seats wo wait in.

Have eaten here twice. Its OK nothing spectacular, food is good, not outstanding. Service depends on what is going on in the square. Would I stop in again yes. But, also have other good choices in the area.

This was my first visit ever to a TooJays and I found the breakfast to be just ok. I arrived at around 9:30am and it was not busy at all. I was seated immediately and I ordered the Bacon & Cheese Omelette with English Muffin and Home Fries. My order came out in less than 5 minutes and as I looked at my omelette, the American cheese was not melted, it was still in its solid state. I should've said something but I really don't like sending food back. The bacon mixed into the egg mix was a bit on the burnt side so overall I was disappointed in taste and presentation. The home fries were nothing special, in retrospect I should've ordered the grits. The highlight of my visit was definitely the service. My waitress was attentive and stayed on top of refills. On my way out, I stopped by the dessert counter and I couldn't resist buying some Black & White Cookies. I bought 1lb for $7.00 which is cheaper than what I find in the supermarkets. Overall, the cookies were good but not great. I feel the chocolate did not have time to settle in and as a result, the chocolate was a bit creamy. I do plan on returning one day to try their lunch selection, the menu had some appealing options.

We have been to many TooJay's and for breakfast I have always ordered the same thing. Eggs Benedict and I have never been disappointed. Today, however, the chain was broken. Today a group of 8 of us met for breakfast at this location. Some from out of town who had never been to a TooJay's. Based on my past success with the E.B., I touted their greatness. 4 of the group followed my lead and ordered E.B. On all counts the poached eggs were right on the cusp of being hard boiled, no runny yoke, none at all, the tomatoes were wilted and there was not near enough hollendaise sauce. It was obvious that that the dishes had been prepared in advance for any orders that would come in and sat for possibly a few hours under a heat lamp. We arrived at 9:30 AM. Big disappointment. Particularly since I had endorsed the E.B. so confidently. Needless to say the out of towners, while polite, were disappointed in the dish and had to be thinking....so what is so great about this TooJay's anyway?

It is located near a golf course in a retirement village area. Most people are retired and there are more golf carts than cars on the road here. The prices are fair but the food is average, nothing exciting. Their menu appears to cater to New Yorkers with "New York style" everything.

Okay, I lied. I said, in a previous review that I wouldn't go back. I did and I'm glad that I did. We had family in town who insisted on having lunch at a deli while at Lake Sumter Landing. To TooJays we went. I slunk past the deli case, the scene of my prior rant and was greeted by a very gracious host. Our party was seated immediately. The waiter was excellent. The sandwiches were superb. While I'm still upset over the prior episode, I have to be honest. The food is too good to not go back!

Nice menu with a nice deli where you can easily get a grab and go lunch or dinner. I had the DiJon Chicken salad and it was served on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, onion, tomatoes, and a slice of bread. I really enjoyed it. I think next time I will try the dill chicken salad. My husband he the chili cheese dog plate which came with 2 dogs and fries. He devoured it. Every thing seemed to be priced well. Our waitress was very friendly and always there when our drinks began to get low. The restaurant is in a great location with inside or outside tables.

Ok ok I was totally smoking crack when leaving this place a 4 star review. Well, not literally, but voraciously inhaling some of the best rugelach I had eaten in years. That's the only reason they got 4 stars. I continue to go for rugelach only quite frequently. Today I ventured out into getting a grilled veggie salad. Ick! It's grilled veggies for the average crowd who eat at fast food places. It's nothing good not appetizing. I'll keep them at 3 stars based on a handful of other vegetarian items I have enjoyed - latkes and sweet potatoe fries. Besides this limited selection plus desserts, this place does not have it going on for the upscale organic vegetarian crowd. I personally can't understand why anyone would want to eat in such a blah bland setting either. That's not dining to me at all.

Toojay's is a nice sit down deli and bakery. Fenny L. Is right, it's not a true New York deli, but its got awesome corned beef on rye and Dr. Brown's cream soda. Score! (Maybe I'm easily pleased) The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but it's clean and the staff is dependable and usually pleasant. Toojay's is a Village's hot spot so you may have to wait. But while you wait there are glass cases full of the most decadent desserts. I stick to Mounds cake. I will admit sometime they're freezer burned (but none of my party has had something they had to send one back.) I love my corned beef on rye so much I can't think of getting anything else. Except at breakfast! They have standard Jewish fair. I could eat for hours. And again, yes this isn't an authentic NYC deli the New Yorkers in the Villages give their approval by being return customers.

I could eat a whole loaf of the rye bread in one sitting. This spot is vegan friendly if you get creative. The portobello sandwich is really good. The desserts look outrageous and family has assured me they are indeed really tasty. This is one of the go-to spots when visiting my parents as they cater to my vegan diet.

I love TooJays! This was my first visit to this location. I was there at an off time so it wasn't busy. I had the grilled brisket sammy which was served hot. As usual, the meat here was fantastic. They loaded up the sandwich w/about 1 1/2" of meat. For those that don't know, you can always substitute a potato pancake for fries, which I did. The potato pancake and coleslaw were great. Not too much mayo in the coleslaw. My server, Robin however was less attentive than a server (let alone a server at TooJays) should be. I had to flag her down several times for needs and she never cleared any of plates, etc. while I was there so I could have some room. I also wanted to order take out from her but she brought my check while I was still eating my lunch and couldn't. It's not like it was busy. I also observed the manager on duty arguing w/a customer about a complaint. If you cannot voice your opinion to the mgr., who then??? I noticed the busser lounging slopped over at a booth which just looked unprofessional. The saving grace was the Hostess Tori who fielded customer complaints w/a smile. Props to her!!! The restrooms appeared to be clean as well as everything else. Though the busser wasn't wiping down the entire tables....just partially. Current health inspection: 0 violations.

I'd always figured TooJay's was just another franchise or chain joint. Ohhh, BOY! Was I ever delightfully surprised! The Hubs and I met some friends there for an impromptu Sunday afternoon lunch. We sat out on the patio and had the best time. Our waitress was fantastic and so attentive. The food? Everything was so good. I had the roasted vegetable omelette which was delicious. Tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly. Hubby had breakfast as well and all I remember was the Belgian waffle on his plate that he couldn't finish after he'd stuffed himself with everything else that came with his entree. You get so much food for very reasonable prices. I can't wait to go back and try more of their offerings. If you haven't been, I suggest you give it a try.

Went there over the weekend for breakfast . We got on line, and waited to be seated. There were 3 people ahead of us and I thought we wouldn't have a long wait. Boy was I wrong. It seem one of the older woman was SAVING a place in line. I would not have minded it but it was for 7 people and her. The hostess did not blink an eye and seated this mob. One person hold a spot for their companion , no big deal. How rude. We finely got seated and the waitress came over a few minutes later and took our order and filled our coffee cups . That was the last time they got filled. Breakfast was ok . How can you screw up eggs. The place is crazy crowded during the winter with the snowbirds and the wait staff must be shell shocked. I have given this place 3 try's and found it's not for me. Your out!

Nice Deli counter when you walk in filled with cakes cookies and other baked goods that's next to the Meat and cheese cooler case that's great to look while you're waiting during meal times. The rest of the restaurant was clean and up-to-date. I had a good Reuben sandwich with plenty of corned beef somehow rolled with sauerkraut, looks great when cut in half. That sandwich came with fries and cole slaw with a fat quartered dill pickle. It was a little pricey but everything in The Villages is.

So, I don't know if the food in this part of Florida is just not good, or what the problem is, but 95% of what we ate wasn't good during our entire trip. Too Jay's included in this statement. My parents live in The Villages half time. They said that Too Jay's was a great lunch spot. So we went. There were 6 adults and a toddler in our party. The food was mediocre at best. The biggest problem was that it was just all overcooked and dried out. My grandfather complained that his beef and barley soup had no beef in it. My husband said all the condiments on his sandwich were obviously put on first and sat under a heat lamp, so the bread was super soggy. My steak and cheese was so dried out, I actually had to ask for mayo for it, just so I could get it down. My son's hot dog was this huge beefy thing, definitely not meant for a child to eat. We were there foreverrrrrrrrrr. The wait was forever, the server took forever and the food took forever plus a day. I will say the outside seating was nice and we took dessert to go which was average. On our next trip to The Villages, we'll skip this place.

The shrimp salad sandwich is always good. Both of us ordered it and we were not diappointed. I also ordered the Matzo Ball soup. The Matzo Ball was very savory, but the chicken was a little tough--not up to their usual standard. Still a great place for lunch.

Three of us walked in here thinking you ordered at the counter and they brought you food to the table. Oops...nope. The huge sign about my head could have been a clue that I was in the takeout line. I never realized they had dining room servers. Anyway, we placed our order withe the cashier, she said she was new to explain her confusion with some of the order. We then headed to the dining room but the new cashier said we had to eat outside! My friend (a restaurant manager herself) said in her best pouty voice, I don't want to eat outside! We were walking out the door to the patio tables when a server came to catch us and say we could sit in the dining room. She showed us to a table. The cashier brought our food to us in a to go bag and containers! AFTER she knew we were dining in. The manager happened by our table and I explained what happened. He apologized profusely and as he was walking away, turned back and said, let me just make this a little sweeter (I'm pretty sure this was his customary line for complaints), and he offered to buy dessert for all of us. The food in all was ok, like Panera or any other chain...pretty predictable.

Great omlette! The bagels were amazing! The service was ok at best. My mother in law asked if she could upgrade to a muffin instead of the bagle and was told no. She said she was willing to pay an up charge, and was still told no. I thought this was handled poorly by the waitress. She easily could have apologized for the restaurants policy and asked if my mil still wanted a muffin as well, but she just said no substitutions. Otherwise, the food was great! I was surprised that they did not have any pancakes on the menu though.

Of three places we dined in the Villages, while visiting friends this was just "run of the mill" food, we stopped by around 10 in the morning for breakfast, nothing to write home about. I have had better food at I Hop. Requested an outside table, very nice, except there were about four tables that had not been bussed and fly's were everywhere. Service was poor at best.

Our go to place to eat when we can't decide where else to go. They have so many choices with their 2 menus you can get something different every time. Never been disappointed . Even when they have a line to get in it goes very fast. My only complaint is it is always freezing in there! Even in the middle of the summer you have to bring a sweater. We usually sit and eat outside in the summer because it really is too cold in there. Also, breakfast is very slow service - but the food is very good.

Just love Too Jay's. Although my daughter lives in NYC, since she grew up in south Florida, always has to go here when she's visiting. Great dill chicken salad, latkes, and matzo ball soup. Try the Killer chocolate cake!

Food is always fresh and delicious. On this visit I had the French onion soup and the hot corned beef sandwich. The soup was very good. The cheese was perfectly melted over the top. The sandwich was piled high and the bread was very fresh. Excellent dining experience. Highly recommended. Great value too
